Jo-Wilfried "Ali" Tsonga was born April 17, 1985 in Le Mans, France to father, Didier, a former Handball player, and mother, Evelyne a teacher. Jo-Wilfried has an older sister Sasha and also has a younger brother Enzo. His parents still live in Le Mans today and Jo-Wilfired resides in La Rippe, Switzerland. Jo-Wilfried started playing tennis when he was very young and turned proffesional in 2004. After a bad string of injuries leaving him out of most competitions from late 2004 until the end of 2006, Jo-Wilfried returned in 2007 to play the game again that he loved so much!

Jo-Wilfried is a member of the Tennis Club de Paris (TCP) today, and had a rise to fame from his preformace in the 2008 Australian open when, he as an unseeded player made it to the finals. The he defeated four seeded players along the way, and eventually lost in the final round.

Jo-Wilfried gained the nickname "Ali" after the boxing great Muhammad Ali, and his close resemblance. Jo-Wilfired Tsonga has over the years formed a great friendship with fellow Tennis player Gael Monfils and they enjoyed mimicking great tennis players when they were younger.
